Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan might shun publicity, but his celebrity has not gone unnoticed.
He's in the running as 1996's person of the year by Lefthander magazine, which, of course, opens and is read from left to right.
Mr. Greenspan is among 35 contenders spanning several categories, and the competition is stiff. Other nominees include Microsoft Corp. Chairman Bill Gates, actress Nicole Kidman and rock star David Bowie.
But Mr. Greenspan might have a leg up. Former President George Bush is on the magazine's editorial board.
