Institutional investment managers oversaw $1.073 trillion in defined contribution plan assets as of Dec. 31, according to data reported for Pensions & Investments' directory of defined contribution money managers. More assets - 47.2% - came from 401(k) plans than any other source, followed by 403(b) plans, with 21.4%. Just 3.1% of defined contribution assets came from 457 plans.
Some 30.2% of the assets were managed in pooled and commingled funds. The top 25 companies managed 78.8% of all defined contribution assets; the top 10 managed 55%.
