Managed futures trading volume is not correlated with increases in futures price volatility, concluded a research study led by Scott H. Irwin, associate professor in the department of agricultural economics at Ohio State University. The study's conclusion is ``sharply at odds with market participants who argue that managed futures trading increases price volatility in the futures market.''
The study, sponsored by the Foundation for Managed Derivatives Research, was based on data provided by the Commodities Futures Trading Commission.
