The Senate Finance Committee today added two provisions of Illinois Democratic Sen. Carol Moseley-Braun's ``Women's Pension Equity Act of 1996'' to the pension provisions already part of the Small Business Job Protection Act of 1996.
One of her proposals would require the IRS to create a model for letting couples take a larger pension during the spouse's lifetime in exchange for waiving rights to receive a monthly pension after the death of the partner who earned it.
The other would require the Labor Department to create a model qualified domestic relations form for private pensions, automatically giving spouses the right to claim a portion of a pension in case of a divorce.
