Morgan Stanley & Co., New York, is reportedly close to acquiring Van Kampen American Capital Management, Oakbrook Terrace, Ill. Sources close to the mutual fund company said a sale was imminent. Morgan Stanley officials would not comment. Dennis McDonnell, Van Kampen's president, said the firm is looking for a partner but has not settled on one. Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch are brokering the sale of the company, which manages $43.5 billion.
