Congressional Democratic leaders, flanked by top Clinton administration officials, today announced they would introduce the president's pension package designed to expand coverage and increase portability and pension security.
Rep. Richard Gephardt, D-Mo., said the Republican pension package, which carries similar themes and was passed by the House late yesterday, is ``weak and watered down.''
The Democrats' bill, called the Daschle-Gephardt Retirement Savings and Security Act, includes minimal technical changes to the president's package unveiled last month. Provisions include expanding IRAs, easing reporting requirements for small employers and simplifying 401(k) plan non-discrimination testing procedures.
