House Republican leaders today touted the benefits of a bill expected to pass in the House tonight, and pitched another bill against promoting exonomicall targeted investments.
The Small Business Job Protection Act includes more than two dozen pension law changes that would encourage savings and increase access to pension plans. The House is expected to vote on the bill tonight.
In a news conference, House Ways and Means Chairman Rep. Bill Archer, R-Texas, said he believes the Senate wanted to keep the pension simplification provisions ``as intact as possible.'' He was unsure when the Senate would vote on the bill.
House Republicans used the forum to badger Labor Secretary Robert Reich and the Labor Department about the alleged promotion of economically targeted investments. A bill banning the promotion of the investments was passed last September in the House, and House Republicans encouraged Senate members to act on their version of the bill quickly.
