Charles Schwab & Co. Inc. today introduced a new stock mutual fund, the Schwab Analytics Fund, which will use quantitative techniques, proprietary software models and databases to create and manage a portfolio of 50 to 100 stocks with attributes historically associated with outperforming the benchmark S&P 500. The fund, which will be managed by Charles Schwab Investment Management, will invest primarily in medium and large companies with market caps of more than $500 million. The fund will pick from 1,300 companies, ranking them by high return potential, as well as selecting diverse industries similar to that of the S&P 500 to control risk.
