Sen. Alan K. Simpson, R-Wyo., head of the Senate Subcommittee on Social Security and Family Policy, will hold a hearing May 20 on proposals to create personal savings accounts under Social Security. The hearing will examine the advantages and disadvantages of all such plans ``to find ways to salvage a support system that many Americans are truly counting on in their later years,'' Mr. Simpson said. Experts testifying at the hearing are Sen. J. Robert Kerrey, D-Neb.; Pierre S. duPont, former governor of Delaware; Stanford G. Ross, a former commissioner of the Social Security Administration; Robert J. Shapiro, vice president of the Progressive Policy Institute; and Carolyn L. Weaver, director of social security and pension studies at the American Enterprise Institute.
