NEW YORK - Base salaries for corporate secretaries and assistant secretaries rose at an annual rate of 4.7% between 1992 and 1994, according to a compensation survey by the American Society of Corporate Secretaries, New York.
The survey looked at average and median base salaries and total compensation packages for the two years ended Jan. 1, 1995.
The average pay package for 506 corporate secretaries with legal degrees was $157,700 in base salary and $214,900 in total cash compensation as of Jan. 1, 1995; for 255 secretaries without law degrees, the figures were $104,500 and $131,600, respectively.
Overall, 31% of respondents had base salaries of $150,000 or higher in 1994.
In 1992, only 21% indicated earnings at that level.
Average bonuses in 1994 were $49,800, or 37% of base salary, up from 29% in a 1992 survey.
