NEW YORK - Investment industry veteran John L. Schroeder retired Sept. 1 as executive vice president and chief investment officer of The Home Insurance Co.
Mr. Schroeder, a former chairman and chief executive of Axe-Houghton Management Inc., and former head of Bankers Trust's institutional investment department, also was chairman of the Insurance Investment Officers Association.
At Home Insurance, New York, Mr. Schroeder oversaw the investment of the insurer's $3.8 billion in assets. Home Insurance was acquired in June by Zurich Insurance Group, and its assets will be managed by Center Investment Services, a Zurich subsidiary.
Despite his retirement, Mr. Schroeder said he expects to remain active in the investment industry. He is looking forward to spending more time in his duties as a director of the Dean Witter Funds, where he has been on the board since 1994, and Citizens Utilities Co., a New York utility company where he has been a board member since 1980.
Additionally, Mr. Schroeder said he plans to do some consulting work for the investment management industry. It will be more of an ad-hoc arrangement than a full-time job, said Mr. Schroeder, who doesn't plan to start a consulting firm after retiring.
