The Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration sympathizes with people who are still confused about the laborious Form 5500 and other compliance issues, and now, they're planning to help out by making themselves more available.
The PWBA is planning to up its participation in various professional conferences, seminars and other events to keep plan sponsors informed of changes. By being at the events, PWBA representatives can answer questions personally.
Alan Lebowitz, deputy assistant secretary for program operations, said PWBA Washington representatives already participate in panels at pension conferences, but now he's hoping the outreach program will include more PWBA officials from the 10 regional offices.
"We will intensify and expand the kind of effort we've made historically," Mr. Lebowitz said.
This will create an additional travel expense, but Mr. Lebowitz said he did not think it would be substantial.
