Kevin Gong was appointed managing director and co-head of tech and consumer in Hong Kong-based VMS Group's private equity team, the company said in a statement.
Mr. Gong shares the title with Vanessa Lee, who has been managing director and head of tech and consumer since 2021. Mr. Gong's appointment was made effective on Wednesday. Both report to Jianming Zou, who was hired in January as the firm's first dedicated head of private equity.
Mr. Gong and Ms. Lee lead the tech and consumer team and its investment management activities, the statement said. Mr. Gong takes charge of the firm's investment management activities in the semiconductor, intelligent manufacturing, advanced materials and new energy sectors, while Ms. Lee oversees artificial intelligence, enterprise services, robotics and consumer technology.
Mr. Gong splits his time between Beijing and Hong Kong for his new role. Ms. Lee is based in Hong Kong.
The team has nine professionals excluding the co-heads, a spokeswoman said. The firm's private equity team comprises two teams: the tech and consumer team, and a health-care team led by Andrew Ng.
VMS Group has $4 billion in assets under management and specializes in private markets and hedge fund strategies.
Mr. Gong was general manager in Beijing at CITIC New Future Invest, a consumer investment arm of Chinese conglomerate CITIC Group. CITIC Group did not immediately respond to questions about his replacement.
