Myron Zhu joined Manulife Investment Management in Hong Kong as head of private markets for Asia.
The position is new, a Hong Kong-based Manulife spokesman said.
Mr. Zhu comes to Manulife from Aberdeen Standard Investments, where he served as co-head of private equity for Asia-Pacific through June. An Aberdeen Standard spokeswoman said Mr. Zhu's responsibilities have been taken on by other members of the firm's private equity team.
Wen Tan, who shared the co-head of private equity title with Mr. Zhu, "currently leads the Asia-Pacific private equity team," she said in an email.
The Manulife spokesman said the firm's private markets business covers private equity, private credit, real estate equity, infrastructure equity, real estate debt, timber and agriculture. Manulife's initial focus in Asia will be on private equity, private credit and real estate equity, he added.
He said Mr. Zhu will look to leverage the firm's existing capabilities on the ground in Asia, filling gaps "either organically or inorganically."
