Joseph M. Harvey has been named CEO of real asset manager Cohen & Steers effective March 1, succeeding company co-founder Robert H. Steers, a spokesman said in an email.
Mr. Steers will assume the new role of executive chairman. Mr. Harvey will retain his position of president.
"I have had the privilege of working with Joe for the past 29 years and know that he will be highly effective at taking our firm to new heights," Mr. Steers said in a news release.
In February, Mr. Steers took a medical leave of absence and Cohen & Steers' board of directors appointed Mr. Harvey acting CEO. He served as acting CEO until June 1 when Mr. Steers returned from leave, having made a full recover, the spokesman said.
Mr. Harvey joined Cohen & Steers as a real estate investment trust analyst in 1992. He was the firm's CIO from 2003 to 2019, when he became president.
Cohen & Steers had $97.3 billion in assets under management as of Sept. 30.
