Amit Jain has joined Carlyle Group in Mumbai as a managing director and co-head of the firm's India investment advisory team.
Mr. Jain comes to Carlyle from Blackstone's Mumbai office, where he served as a senior managing director in the private equity group for a decade through the early part of 2021.
A Blackstone spokeswoman declined comment.
Mr. Jain joins Neeraj Bharadwaj in leading the team, which has invested or committed more than $5.5 billion in the country since 2005, according to a news release.
In addition, Mr. Bharadwaj and Ling Yan, Carlyle's current head of health care in China, have been named co-heads of health care across Asia — a new role at the firm for a market segment Carlyle has invested $2.8 billion in over the past 15 years, the news release said.
The news release cited the hiring of Mr. Jain as "doubling down" on a market that Greg Zeluck, managing director and co-head of Carlyle Asia, said offers "some of the most attractive investment opportunities globally."
