Richard Johnson joined Appian Capital Advisory as global head of investor relations and a managing director, a spokesman said.
The position is new and was added due to overall growth and strong investor interest in metals and mining due to energy transition themes, he added.
The firm focuses on long-term value-focused private equity funds that invest solely in mining and mining-related companies.
Mr. Johnson manages relationships with existing investors and attracts new investors to Appian, working closely with the executive team.
He also advises and works with the portfolio company financial teams, and coordinates and participates in due diligence ahead of acquisitions.
"We are delighted that Richard is joining Appian as global head of investor relations, adding significant strength to our team. With over three decades of experience working for some of the world's most recognizable alternative capital companies, I am confident that he will be a real asset for us," said Michael W. Scherb, founder and CEO, in a news release.
Mr. Johnson was partner and co-head of global distribution banking at placement agent Mercury Capital Advisors.
