Roger W. Ferguson Jr. was named vice chairman of Apollo Global Management.
Mr. Ferguson, who retired as president and CEO of TIAA-CREF earlier this year, will serve as an adviser to Apollo's senior leaders on asset management and retirement services initiatives.
It is a new position, a spokesman said. As vice chairman, Mr. Ferguson will also be involved in "enhancing new deal origination and deepening relationships with investors, regulators, industry leaders and the broader financial services community," a news release said Monday.
"Roger is a proven leader in the retirement and financial services space, and we are excited to welcome him to the team and benefit from his vast experience," CEO Marc Rowan said in the news release.
At TIAA, Mr. Ferguson was replaced as president and CEO by Thasunda Brown Duckett, previously the CEO of Chase Consumer Banking, a division of J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.
As of June 30, Apollo had about $472 billion in assets under management.
