The Educational Employees’ Supplementary Retirement System of Fairfax County (ERFC), with assets in excess of $2 billion, serves over 35,000 active and retired employees of the Fairfax County, Virginia Public Schools division. ERFC, a defined benefit public pension plan, supplements the primary benefit that employees receive from the Virginia Retirement System. ERFC manages all functions of the System including investment manager oversight, benefit counseling and administration, accounting and communications programs.

Description: Leads the benefit and investment programs of the Educational Employees’ Supplementary Retirement System of Fairfax County (ERFC), with assets in excess of $2 billion, serving over 35,000 active and retired employees of the Fairfax County, Virginia Public Schools division. ERFC, a defined benefit public pension plan, supplements the primary benefit that employees receive from the Virginia Retirement System. ERFC manages all functions of the System including investment manager oversight, benefit counseling and administration, accounting and communications programs.

The Executive Director/Chief Investment Officer plans, organizes, supervises, and evaluates all activities, programs, functions, personnel, and physical resources, and manages institutional investment consultant and manager relationships. Participates on local defined benefit boards, represents ERFC at regional and national conferences, and presents information to stakeholders and elected officials. This position reports directly to the ERFC Board of Trustees.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, economics, or related field (master’s and/or CFA preferred) plus seven years’ progressive experience, some with supervisory or leadership experience. We are looking for: experience in management principles and techniques, investment management, retirement and pension fund administration, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and accounting principles; knowledge of federal and state law governing public employee retirement systems; skill in oral and written communications and human relations; and the demonstrated ability to coordinate policy, pension plan, and administrative matters between political leaders, boards, and trustees.
