Investment Officer & Portfolio Manager Position

The Municipal Employees' Retirement System (MERS) is a public non-profit organization designed to offer retirement solutions that Michigan municipalities may adopt for their employees. MERS offers employee benefit programs such as defined benefit, defined contribution and hybrid plans as well as group insurance products.
We are currently searching for an Investment Officer & Portfolio Manager to add to our Investment Team.

This position reports directly to the Chief Investment Officer. Duties are varied and will focus on fixed income and alternative investments. This candidate will manage assets and perform investment research according to their aptitude and interest. The preferred candidate will have the ability to communicate at a high level, have strong attention to detail and exhibit the potential to progress within the organization. Additional qualifications include:

• An undergraduate degree with and at least 7 years operational experience in an institutional investment environment with increased responsibility
• MBA, CFA designation or equivalent education is highly desirable
• Fixed income management experience
• Experience in alternative investments, including real assets and derivatives
• Direct or indirect experience with defined contribution preferred
• An individual with the proven ability to undertake rigorous analysis combined with excellent communication skills to influence up and down the organization
• Excellent written and oral communications skills, strong analytical skills, decision making abilities, self-motivation, and an ability to assume increasing responsibility are essential
• Ability to work independently as well as in a supportive team environment

The salary range for this position is $104,782 - $172,890
