University of Pennsylvania's $13.8 billion endowment returned 12.9% for the fiscal year ended June 30, Amanda Mott, spokeswoman for the Philadelphia-based university, said in an email.

The return topped its benchmark by 170 basis points. For the five, 10 and 20 years ended June 30, the endowment returned an annualized 9.9%, 7.7% and 7.4% respectively. The endowment returned 14.3% for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2017.

A statement by the university emailed by Ms. Mott said "returns across equity-oriented asset classes were strong, with private equities producing particularly notable performance."

Asset class return and asset allocation information could not be immediately learned; Ms. Mott did not respond to a request for further information by press time.
