Daniel Hanson will join hedge fund manager JANA Partners on March 26 as co-portfolio manager of the JANA Impact Capital fund, which will launch in midsummer.
Charles Penner, a partner at the firm, is the other co-portfolio manager of the fund, which will use environmental, social and governance factors in its activist investment approach.
Mr. Hanson has extensive experience in managing sustainable investment strategies, Mr. Penner said, including managing socially responsible funds at BlackRock (BLK) earlier in his career. Mr. Hanson also is a lecturer for The Responsible Investing Center of the Haas School of Business, University of California-Berkeley and a founding member of the Sustainable Accounting Standards Board.
Mr. Hanson most recently was a partner and portfolio manager for U.S. equities in the New York office of Jarislowsky Fraser. He has been replaced by Jeremy Schaal, associate portfolio manager on the U.S. equities investment team, said Quyn Pham, a company spokeswoman.
Mr. Schaal will not immediately be replaced as associate portfolio manager, Ms. Pham said.
JANA Partners manages $4 billion in traditional and activist hedge funds.
