Amherst Capital recruits private funds managing director from Texas Teachers

Damon Pitler was named managing director, portfolio manager, private funds, at Amherst Capital Management, said spokesman Dan Scorpio.

The position is new. Mr. Pitler will manage the firm's U.S. single-family equity and commercial real estate portfolios. He will be based in Austin and report to Sean Dobson, CEO and chief investment officer.

Mr. Pitler was a senior investment manager for real assets at the $133.2 billion Texas Teacher Retirement System, Austin. Retirement system spokesman Howard Goldman did not know by press time whether he had been replaced.

Amherst Capital Management is a BNY Mellon investment boutique specializing in U.S. real estate, with $5.7 billion in assets under management as of Dec. 31.
