Bank stocks advanced Tuesday after Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen said the FOMC could raise rates after next month's meeting. Of the top 10 bank stocks in the S&P 500, all but Citigroup and Fifth Third Bancorp hit 52-week highs.
The S&P 500 banking sector subindex also moved to a 52-week high and is up 5.1% year-to-date. Bank of America leads the sector in 2017 with a. 8.9% return and is up 43% since the end of 2015. Shares of PNC had the largest swing in dollar terms, reaching a high of $168.22 per share on Tuesday from a low of $102.55 last February.
