The total U.S. trade deficit as of Nov. 30 was $69.2 billion, up $9.2 billion from the end of 2015. The trade deficit with China was $30.5 billion as of the end of November, and averaged $29 billion during the year. Over the trailing five-year period, the trade deficit has grown an average 5.1%, only declining twice, in 2009 and 2015.

Deficits with the European Union and Mexico were $14.8 billion and $5.8 billion, respectively. The deficit with Mexico increased 29.5% since the end of 2015.
