Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, was confirmed as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee on Thursday for the 115th Congress.
Mr. Hatch became the top Republican on the committee in 2011 and has served as its chair since January 2015. The committee has jurisdiction over more than 50% of the federal budget and tax, trade and health-care policy.
Mr. Hatch noted in a statement that the committee has “a history that runs deep in bipartisanship” and pledged that its members “will act swiftly to put in place a strong and capable cabinet” to oversee tax reform, health-care reform and strengthening of Social Security and Medicare, among other issues. “There is room for bipartisan compromise in all of these areas,” Mr. Hatch said.
