Commonfund survey: Institutional investors most likely to increase emerging markets equity, private equity and real estate

Results of the third annual Commonfund Investor Outlook Survey show that institutional investors are optimistic about emerging markets and illiquid investments like private equity and real estate. 55% of respondents indicated they are likely to increase emerging markets equity exposure over the next 12 to 18 months, up from 53% last year. 47% said they are likely to increase allocations to private equity and venture capital, up from 40% in 2012; and 41% see increases to real estate, up slightly from 37% last year. Natural resources are also likely to see increases with 39% of respondents, although that figure is down from a year ago when 44% said they would allocate more to the asset class.
