San Diego City Employees earns 13.9% on investments in 2012

San Diego City Employees' Retirement System earned 13.9% net of fees for the year ended Dec. 31, said Elizabeth Crisafi, chief investment officer for the $5.6 billion system, in an e-mail.
The pension fund slightly bested the 13.8% performance of its customized benchmark, prepared by its general investment consultant Hewitt EnnisKnupp. The fund's best-performing asset class for the year was private equity, which earned 18.9%, followed by emerging markets debt with 18% and non-U.S. equities with 17.4%.
