Illinois Teachers' Retirement System gains 14% in 2012

Illinois Teachers' Retirement System, Springfield, returned 13.92% net of fees in 2012.

Every asset class produced positive returns for the $38.6 billion pension fund for the year ended Dec. 31, according to a news release from the fund.

International equity had the best performance for the 12-month period at 17.02%, followed by domestic equity, 16.34%; private equity, 16.22%; fixed income, 13.67%; real return, 9.92%; real estate, 8.4%; hedge funds, 8.15%; and short-term investments, 4.68%.
