Connecticut retirement system returns 13.5% in 2012

Connecticut Retirement Plans & Trust Funds, Hartford, returned 13.5% in the year ended Dec. 31, according to a news release from the office of state Treasurer Denise Nappier, principal fiduciary of the $26.2 billion retirement system.

The top-performing asset class was international equity, which returned 18.8%, followed by fixed income at 9.7% and alternatives — which include private equity, real estate and hedge funds — at 8.9%.
