Canadian National Railway puts C$700 million into pension funds in 2012

Canadian National Railway Co., Montreal, made voluntary contributions totaling C$700 million (US$694.6 million) to its defined benefit pension plans in 2012, confirmed spokesman Mark Hallman.
It contributed C$450 million in the first quarter of the year and C$250 million in the fourth quarter, and has made total voluntary contributions of C$1.35 billion since 2010.
The pension plans had assets of C$14.72 billion and liabilities of C$15.55 billion for a funded status of 94.7% as of Dec. 31, 2011, the most recent information available.
