According to data released Monday by Dow Jones VentureSource, U.S. private equity firms raised $160.4 billion in 2012, up more than 20% from 2011. The number of funds, however, dropped 6% to 426. Buyout/corporate finance fund closings were up 25% to $114.4 billion, while mezzanine funds raised $10.8 billion during the year, more than double the amount compared to 2011. Venture capital closings grew only 1% to $20.3 billion.
