Daniel Rice was named portfolio manager and head of the energy investment division at hedge fund GRT Capital Partners.
The position is the hedge fund firm's first dedicated exclusively to energy investments, Timothy Krochuk, co-founder and managing partner, said in an interview.
Mr. Rice is expected to manage about $400 million with a target portfolio size of up to $800 million, Mr. Krochuk said.
Mr. Rice was co-manager of five BlackRock (BLK) funds, including lead manager for the $925 million BlackRock Energy & Resources Portfolio. BlackRock announced in June that Mr. Rice would be leaving the firm.
