Los Angeles Fire & Police Pension System extended the contract of interim general manager William S. Raggio for an additional six months ending May 6, 2013, or until a new general manager is selected, Mr. Raggio said in an e-mail.
The search for a new general manager should be completed in January.
The previous general manager, Michael Perez, retired in May 2011.
The board also ratified all actions taken by Mr. Raggio on behalf of the system between Nov. 5 and its Nov. 20 board meeting. The board took that action because of a clause in the city charter that pension plan officials interpreted as limiting temporary appointments to six months with one renewal.
