About 18% of respondents to a P&I Online survey last week wanted to stockpile Twinkies and other Hostess Brands Inc. products as a result of the company's liquidation announcement.
The number of readers who wanted Hostess Ho Hos, Ding Dongs and other snacks was twice the number of readers who actually hoarded the cakes.
Seventy-three percent of respondents had no interest in purchasing Hostess products. Such lack of interest in Hostess' snack foods is reportedly one of the factors that led to the company's liquidation.
Hostess announced Nov. 16 that it will close its business and sell off all its assets. As part of the liquidation process, Hostess will terminate its defined benefit plan, and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. will assume its liabilities. Pension obligations were another of the factors the company cited for liquidation.
