Launched earlier this year, the National Council of Real Estate Investment Fiduciaries Fund Index – Open-End Equity is a new index that aggregates open-end, commingled equity real estate funds across various investment strategies. According to NCREIF, it isn't a performance benchmark, but rather a "market index of real estate vehicles with provisions for liquidity." Through Sept. 30, the index revealed a one-year net return of 11%. Since inception (data going back to 1978), the NFI-OE index posted annualized returns of 7% through the third quarter of this year.
