Institute for Supply Management’s factory index expands in September

Data released Monday by the Institute for Supply Management reveal that manufacturing activity in the U.S. expanded in September for the first time in three months. According to the ISM, 11 of 18 manufacturing industries have reported growth in September. The Purchasing Managers index closed at 51.5% - a reading above 50% indicates that the manufacturing economy is generally expanding; below 50% indicates that it is generally contracting.
