John W. Akkerman was named senior managing director and global head of distribution at MacKay Shields, confirmed spokeswoman Allison Scott.
The position is new.
Mr. Akkerman was senior vice president and co-head of alternative sales and client service at AllianceBernstein (AB). Michael Gaviser, who also was co-head and senior vice president, became sole head in June.
