Wayne Propst was named executive director of the $12.1 billion New Mexico Public Employees Retirement Association, Santa Fe, effective May 14, according to a posting on the retirement system's website.
Mr. Propst replaces Terry Slattery, who left the retirement system in October to take on the same position at the $1.7 billion Iowa Municipal Fire & Police Retirement System, West Des Moines.
Mr. Probst is executive director of the New Mexico Retiree Health Care Authority, Albuquerque. Prior to that, he was a principal analyst for the New Mexico Legislative Finance Committee. The health-care authority's executive committee is meeting Monday to discuss an interim replacement and potential search process, said spokeswoman Ramona Martinez.
Gerald L. Chavez, PERA board chairman, did not return a telephone call by press time for additional information.
