Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois, located in Springfield, is searching for an Executive Director to administer this $30.4 billion statewide multiple employer retirement system serving over 355,500 members.
The Director, reporting to a 13 member Board, is responsible for the $22 million operating budget and 180 associates. The Board seeks an expe- rienced leader with broad-based generalist experience across member services, investments, health care, benefits administration, and legisla- tive affairs, a preference to applicants with experience and knowledge of investments and legislative affairs. A Bachelor's degree (J.D. or Master's preferred), and a minimum of 10 years' relevant experience in a senior leadership role managing a complex organization are required. The Director must be a defined benefit plan advocate; value public education and the work of teachers; and a positive and inspiring "mission leader," who is strategic and politically savvy. Public pension fund experience is preferred, but applicants leading other complex organizations with relevant experience and a proven track record of success will be considered.
